John 19:5
Joh_19:5 Then Jesus came out, wearing the crown of thorns and the purple robe. And Pilate said to them, “Behold the Man!”
Pilate saw Jesus as a huge a problem. He was a man that in his estimation posed no threat to Rome nor the Jews, yet he sat on a powder keg because of the leaders of the Jews insistence that He be put to death. Does he put Him to death and squelch the possible riot among the Jews? Or does he release Him and probably bring the Roman army to quiet the Jews? His reaction was to wash his hands of the whole mess and deliver Jesus over to be executed. The Pharisee’s, Sadducee’s, Priest’s and scribes saw Jesus as a man that was a trouble maker. They refused to listen to His teachings and would try to convict Him for claiming equality with God. They denied His signs and claimed they had their origin from hell.
He was indeed a man. He had the physical appearance of a man and had parents that raised Him from an infant. He had all the weaknesses of a man. He hungered, (Matt. 4:2). He became thirsty, (John 19:28). He slept, (Mark 4:38). Tempted in all points like we are, but without sin, (Heb. 4:15). Even tasted the bitter pill of death, (John 19:32). Many of His peers saw Jesus as only a mere man. But notice how others saw Him.
Joh 1:29 The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!
When Jesus approached John the Baptist, he saw more than a man, he saw Jesus as the Lamb of God! He realized His divine mission to take away the sins of the world. He also recognized His divine Origin when he called Jesus the Lamb of God. Nathanael called Him “The Son of God and King of Israel” John 1:49. The Samaritan woman at the well recognized Jesus as a prophet, (John 4:19). In Matt. 16:16, Peter called Jesus “the Christ, the Son of the Living God.”
Jesus was a man. He lived and died like a man. But, He resurrected like the Son of God!. He said Himself that He came into this world to save sinners, Luke 19:10. He was aware of His divine commission. He demonstrated His message with the signs and powers of an almighty God. John 20:30-31. Surely this man is the Lamb of God! HOW DO YOU SEE JESUS?
