THE PERFECT MAN

Psa 37:37 “Mark the blameless man, and observe the upright; For the future of that man is peace.”

It has been said that the perfect man can only be found in fables and fairy tales. In Psalms 37:7 the Bible talks about the blameless man. The word blameless means morally good, and upright, perfect. The author wrote if you find such a man, mark him. The word mark means to take heed, observe closely. How could such a man be described? Aubrey Andelin in his book Man of Steel and Velvet used this phrase written by Carl Sandberg to describe Abraham Lincoln. He writes, “Not often in the story of mankind does a man arrive on earth who is both steel and velvet, who is hard as a rock and soft as a drifting fog, who holds in his heart and mind the paradox of a terrible storm and peace unspeakable and perfect.”  Mark Van Doren wrote, “He was gentle, but this gentleness was combined with terrific toughness, and iron strength.” This man led our country through one of the greatest storms in American history with courage, confidence, compassion and strength.

In 1964 British psychiatrist Dr. Joshua Bierer described American men as “a bunch of weak kneed, lily livered sissies.” He said that he once thought the American women were wanting to rule the country, but decided they were compelled to take over not fighting to take over.”

We need men who are willing to accept the responsibility to lead the home. Men who display the quality of manliness without the facade of being macho! Men who have a sterling character and impeccable honesty. They have a reputation of integrity and uncompromising in their values. Yet they are compassionate, loving and gentle in their treatment of others. Such a man was Jesus Christ. He exemplified all of these traits as he dealt with others. He was committed to completing the mission He started. He was a builder of society lifting mankind to higher planes, thought and living. We need the kind of love for our wives that Jesus had for His church. Ephesians 5:25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her.” We understand that Jesus voluntarily laid down His life for the church, but what else is involved?  What does it mean today for men to give themselves to their families? Most men would literally die for their families, but how many live for them? As men do, we provide the balance of discipline, love, kindness, and emotional support our families need? Are we selfish or are we selfless? The home needs men with the backbone of Joshua who committed himself and his house to serve God. Joshua 24:15, And if it seems evil to you to serve the LORD, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.”

The idea of perfect does not mean without faults but rather complete in the foundation blocks of his life.
